On April 20th, 2002, Whitman gave his first performance in a church in Highland, California. Wearing a flannel hunting jacket, a long black wig, and sunglasses he strummed a severly out of tune guitar with only three strings. It's doubtful that anyone in the room would have imagined that ten years later, he would still be performing. But since then he has had 29 releases (not including compilation apperances), and toured extensively. His music has gone through many trasnformations over the years, but has never strayed from being brutally honest. This CD collects 17 songs from various split artist releases and compilations. It also contains several previously unreleased recordings. This is a limited edition, one time release of 200 glass mastered and pro-replicated CD's (not CD-R's) that come in full color jackets with artwork by Emma Backman.

FT046 // EZRA BUCHLA / WHITMAN

Ezra Buchla has been active and influential in Southern California's music scene for years. He's gone from fronting the spazzed-out rock group The Mae-Shi, to collaborating with Erika Anderson (the artist currently known as EMA) to create the sultry yet uneasy project Gowns. Now he's broken out on his own to explore new territory. At times collaborating with the likes of Corey Fogel (Gowns), Daniel Brummel (Ozma), and others, Buchla is as poignant and powerful as ever. This is his vinyl debut with this venture and his contribution comes in a nearly five minute soundscape of viola, synth, and his unique vocal stylings. It's both chilling and unforgettable. Whitman is arguably a equally influential figure of the Southern California wasteland who has continually been performing and releasing recordings for the past ten years. This split follows hot on the heels of his last full length, "Dog Rose Gall", which Buchla produced. His contribution is a slow and errie crawl of guitar strum, cello, and haunted vocals. Limited to only 330 records (110 on transparent red vinyl and 220 on black). FT045 // WHITMAN "DOG ROSE GALL"

Dog Rose Gall is the long overdue follow up record to 2008's White Sunrise. Consisting of songs written between 2007-2010, this dark and moody offering is Whitman's most ambitious release. Hauntingly dissonant strings provided by Ezra Buchla (viola) and Richard Seymour (cello) drive many of these tracks giving Whitman more room to explore stark, poetic, vocal stylings. The tracklist itself shifts from being part emotional turmoil and part romantic whimsy, with the sporatic percussion by Corey Marc Fogel complimenting Whitman's unique guitar playing in the most organic way. Produced by Ezra Buchla.

Thill is back with a brand new single - a catchy pop number about the love of being young and wreckless. The song is lathe-cut onto a red picnic plate (remember the flexi-disc?) and has a wonderfull warm feeling, similar to that of an old 78. The record comes housed in a plastic sleeve with a photo-copied insert, which is then slipped into a screen printed carboard box with 25 candles. Limited to 20 copies.

John Thill, former Inland Emprire resident, has no doubt become a Southern California staple and one of it's most influential performers. After years of performing with the garbage-folk-noise project known as The Aum Rifle, the tropical hip-hop / free-jazz group known as Quem Quaeritis, and a handfull of other projects and jokes, Thill began performing solo. His debut release "Heart of Grime" was released on Shrimper in 2007, and though he has released quite an extensive discography since, this is only his second proper full-length album - and we are very excited to be the ones to share it with you. This record is far less abrasive than it's predecessor and expands new grounds and instrumentation that create some of Thill's most well contructed and memorable songs to date, showing what a talented songwriter he really is. Comes on a pro-dubbed and imprinted cassette in an edition of 100 copies with a full-color cover and includes a digital download.

I first met Sam and Rogers from No Paws in a small record store in Riverside, Ca. They invited me to come jam with them sometime and though I humored the invitation I had no intention of folowing through. Looking back now, I never would have guessed that I would be releasing their LP, nor that they would form a band that is easily one of the most solid outfits that California has to offer. This single sided LP contains a collection of brilliant pop songs that are overblown to such a level that they have a very punk vibe to them. Driven by keyboard and drums, this record is full of energy and glows with the vibriant colors of neon sludge. We are very proud to be the ones to present the world with the debut release by Wigger Mom. Wigger Mom consists of Tweety B. (aka Brian Blomerth of Narwhalz (Of Sound)), Jonathan H. Coward (of Shams), and Dylan B. James. This is a collection of four songs in which you are assaulted with percussion and wind instruments while Tweety B. tells you her tales of what it's like being a 14 year old, white trash slut that lives in a trailer park. This record will tell you first hand what it's like when your babie's daddy has to go to Iraq, and you have no choice by to party while he's gone. It's not easy being the "doo-rag generation", but this chic knows how to pull it off. You might remember an awkward kid from West Covina, Ca. who hid under a giant home made elephant mask and played catchy yet incredibly personal songs on his Yamaha keyboard under the moniker Nicole Kidman. Well, that kid was Jon Barba and he is back, dropping the moniker and making the move to Oakland, Ca. This record contains two new songs that are easily his best to date (and that's saying a lot). The songs on this record are more produced than his previous cassette releases but without loosing any of the warm, lo-fi character his recordings are known for. Lyricaly this record is more angsty than some of his other offerings, but the songs are catchy as hell and will likely be stuck in your head for days after listening. This record starts off with the forlorn and familiar plucking of Los Angeles based, Whitman's guitar, which is shortly joined by shaky vocals that deliver some of his most brutally honest and straight forward lyrics yet. Then things take a bit of a turn as your ears get pummled with shrieks of white noise and tape garble. A short but haunting journey, showing you Whitman at his best. On the flip side, current Oakland residents No Babies start their song off with a catchy beat, bass clarinet, and vocals that are surprisingly melodic. This is a pleasant surprise for anyone who is used to thier energy packed live shows, but it doesn't last long, the beat picks up and chaos ensues, leaving you with an exhausted but satisfied feeling in just under two minutes. This is a one time pressing of 549 5" records on black vinyl. They come in full color covers with art by Anthony Fonda and Christopher Payne and include a lyric sheet and MP3 download card.

French Quarter (aka Stephen Steinbrink) is one of the most brilliant song writers today. He knows his craft well and writes some incredibly catchy pop songs as well as many beautifully somber ballads. After a debut release on Gilgongo Records and another album under his own name (also on Gilgongo), as well as a hand-full of cassette and cd-r releases, this limited edition lathe-cut 8" is meant as a companion piece to his newest album "It's Not just Kissing". This record contains four songs, three originals and a Dear Nora cover. Only 35 copies made, cut on clear vinyl. Housed in recycled record jackets, cut to size, and screen printed with artwork by Stephen himself. A full-color insert and a cd-r copy of the record is also included with the release.

On this fine new piece of wax, Splinter Cake and Foot Ox offer up three songs a-piece, and it is some of their catchiest and most memorable material to date. Splinter Cake offers two, full band, pop ballads in which he is aided by female vocals. These songs are catchy and very well crafted, showing off his knack for constantly experimenting new musical territories. With that being said, it comes as no suprise that his third song is a hip-hop track with a heavy 'old school' infuence. Foot Ox also offers up two, full band anthems that are un-deniably cathcy in his own quirky style. The two songs are bridged together by a beautiful ballad composed of mostly cello and vocals, and the record is lead to an end by a slowly dying tape loop. This record is packed to the brim and is completely golden from start to finish. Limited pressing of 540 records (430 on black vinyl and 110 on yellow vinyl) that are housed in bright orange covers with artwork by Teague Cullen printed in red ink. This was originally released as 3" CD-R back in 2004 and was later released as a full-size CD-R. Now, after years of being out of print we are giving it a release on the format it deserves. On this record, Gowns are Erika Anderson (Ex-Amps for Christ) and Ezra Buchla (Ex-Mae shi). It also features guest vocals from Carla Bozulich (Evangelista, Geraldine Fibbers). This was the first release by Gowns and it will leave you breathless. Various objects are plucked and strummed and vocals are whispered soft and sexily under a layer of buzzing cables and hissing machines. This record is both beautiful and haunting. White vinyl LP's with printed labels, housed in white LP jackets hand screened and splattered in gold ink.

If pop and noise had a kid, and that kid had down syndrome, then it would probably sound something like Knight Rider. This Los Angeles based duo have been around for quite some time, laying down their heavy beats, odd guitar melodies, and mostly undecipherable vocals. After a hand full of cassette's and mini cd-r's this is the bands vinyl debut. This 7" contains two songs that could very well be considered 'singles'. Though Knight Rider can be known for their noisy, sometimes border line industrial performances, these songs are catchy and extremely well arranged - but without losing any of the odd qualities that make Knight Rider one of the most unique and intriguing acts in Los Angeles. This is a very limited run of only 30 lathe cut 7" records, made in New Zealand on transparent records. They come in plastic sleeves with photocopy transfered covers and a partial fold over back side.

This is a re-release of an EP that was originally released in 2003 as part of the quilt series on Nightpass Handmade Records, but this a gem, and we've decided to give in one more chance to shine. This is a conceptual record that touches on fear, longing, and the search for "home". It's four songs, three of which are collaborations (with Gulliver, Brother Mitya, and John Thill), that are bridged together by instrumentals. This entire record was recorded to a hand-held tape recorder that was layered digitally and mixed by John Thill, giving it a very eerie analog feel. Comes on white, stamped CD-R's, in plastic sleeves with hand-printed covers from a linoleum cut done by Ian Trout. Limited edition of 100 copies.

This record is a collaboration between Anni Rossi and Whitman that was recorded back in 2004 in small rooms in both Riverside and Valencia, California on a cassette four-track and until now has only been released as a very limited CD-R. This is a collection of seven songs that were written together by both artists; lyrically and musically. However, it may not be what you'd expect to come from these two artists, as this record stands on it's own and sounds very different from the previous work of either artist. The songs range anywhere from mellow ballads lead by guitar, viola and even piano, to upbeat chants driven by junkyard percussion. This is a limited pressing of 500 records, 300 of which are on black vinyl, and the 200 on burgundy vinyl. They come housed in white record sleeves with beautiful artwork by Kristina Collantes hand screened in burgundy ink. Co-released with PIAPTK.

Clark 8 brings you four new songs that are undeniably catchy and captured with warm perfection. Reminicent of mid-90's alternative rock/pop punk, these songs, despite being new recordings, will evoke some kind of nostalgia, and may even get you to start dusting off some of your CD (or cassette) collection you'd forgotten you had. These records were made in a pressing of 500 with 300 on black, 100 on transparent blue, and 100 on a mix of blue and white (think non-fat milk). Good things come to those who wait. This here is a long awaited follow up to Brother Mitya's 2005 CDR 'Melting Wax Daisies…'. It's a collection of nine songs that were literally saved from the wreckage of a house fire that destroyed his home in Arcata, California in February of 2008. The songs themselves are delicate and sound like they could break at any given moment. On this release he has a bit more direct and less raspy vocal delivery, a lot of times making the songs more catchy but at the same time not abandoning his incredibly unique vocal stylings either. Classical guitar with whispered lyrics, occasional accompaniment, and various sound collages, all soaked in a layer of warm, lo-fi hiss. Black cassettes with printed labels and color covers designed by Kristina Collantes with an insert that was saved from the flames.

This is the solo-project of Uggamugga member and Tiny Panda Records operator, Frances Lopez. After a limited, self-released EP, a handful of compilations, and a short tour up through the Pacific Northwest with Whitman, she has begun to get a lot of attention for her simple, but honest songs. This is a seven-song EP that is probably some of her darkest work; and is often both catchy and melancholy. The songs on this record are all tied to the ocean, bundled up in seaweed and lying in the sand, damp from the early morning mist. The record comes on stamped cd-r's in brown arigato-pak's with a two-color silkscreen of a starfish, drawn by Christopher Payne, who helped produce record.

This is a collection of eight songs about gothic/pagan culture. The songs are dark, distorted, and often disturbing. The album come's on tinted-red CD-R's packaged inside of a heavy duty paper case with black on black printing, and sewn together like an old spell book. This is Whitman's fourth full-length, and outdoes all of his previous work in just about every way. Recorded to tape at the Pixel Palace (rip) in Riverside, Ca. by Gilbert Loera and including more guest musicians than you can count on your fingers, one could say that this is his masterpiece (at least at this point). This is a collection of thirteen songs, choked out in smog and violence, dark and dusty. Lonelier than ever, voice raising high and loud before cracking. Some of the best music in the country is coming out of Los Angeles and Phoenix, though it is often too covered in smog and heat waves that it is overlooked. Adam Lipman hails from Half-Moon Bay, a small town easily overlooked on a map of the California coast. This record however, should not be. Lipman's songs are so simple and gentle that they make your heart want to burst.
